Each day’s assignments will be concerned with exploring ideas and discovering ways of shifting out of old predictable patterns. You will learn to fine tune your focus of artistic expression. You will “perk up” your approach to each new painting! There will be opportunities for planning and developing a fresh new approach to subject matter and composition through the use of planned exercises. The demos, handouts, and exercises are all designed to help develop your individual style with confidence, and to inspire your present and future work.
Day 1: Getting Started
- Demos and assignment of exercises on composition and editing subject matter
- We will explore a process of evaluating subject matter using shapes to express form and content
- We will start 2 paintings
- There will be evaluations and help/critiques of individual work on-going throughout the day
Day 2: Development
- Work with color palette selection and using acrylic paint in a direct, flat, and opaque manner.
- Completion of 2 paintings
- Throughout both days will be opportunities to evaluate, change, rearrange and edit what is in front of you
- There will be time set aside at the end of each day for the group to gather together so that we can critique at least one painting from each person
