Monday Experimental Art Day
...every third Monday
by Karen Foster
Feb 19th | Kandinsky inspired throw down circles
$50 a class | 12-5pm -ish | age 16 and up
Amazing colors will be applied to canvas followed by discussions about composition. You will pick your favorite composition and create an abstract by using circles as the theme.
Supplies: 24x24 canvas, sample house paints (we will share), large brushes, stamps, stencils, palette knife, sponge rollers, scraping tools, and paper towels.
Come enjoy the fun and learn a lot that you can apply to your own art medium.
Mar 19th | Drawing and Painting with a Stick
Experience, for a day, what it would be like to be Henri Matisse. Draw with a bamboo pole tipped with Charcoal, then switch gears and paint the drawing with big, loose strokes by taping a brush on a stick.
SUPPLIES: #16, #18 OR #20 round brush, a variety of other favorite brushes, possibly a small table or TV tray, 2 full sheets of watercolor paper 22”x30” or 1or 2 large canvases, several samples of acrylic house paints, large bucket for water, paper towels, blue or green wide painter’s tape
Apr 23rd | Drip Painting
Unlike Jackson Pollock who worked horizontally, Karen will show you a form of action painting using a vertical surface to encourage dripped paint to make its way to the bottom and then introduce negative painting onto the piece to create flowers or trees.
SUPPLIES: 16”X20” canvas, table top easel, acrylic paints, in either sample house paints or your regular acrylics, a couple of wide brushes such as a 1” or larger, newspaper, paper towels or baby wipes
May 21st | Collage
This is a medium that allows the artist to interact with existing materials-anything from newsprint, magazines or any other ephemera and beautiful papers to create visually dynamic hybrids. If you have some special papers, by all means you may bring your own or Karen will have a reserve of beautiful papers for you to use for a small supply fee.
SUPPLIES: 12”X16” canvas or board, matte medium or Mod Podge, an old brush for glue, paper towels or baby wipes, any papers you may want to use.
