Pecan Valley Centers and the Lake Granbury Art Association will present a special, themed, youth art show during May to promote Mental Health Awareness month. “Walk in My Shoes” will give young artists (Pre K–12th grade) the opportunity to create artwork expressing their thoughts and feelings. Our goal is to bring public awareness to children’s mental health while highlighting the importance of conducting age appropriate conversations.

Recent statistics show that up to 20% of 13-18 year olds live with a mental condition. That’s 1 in 5. 11% of those have a mood disorder, 10% a behavior disorder and 8% and anxiety disorder. Early intervention is crucial. Open and honest discussion of these disorders is necessary to remove the social stigmas that often accompany them. Art is the perfect ‘voice’ to start these discussions.

All participants artwork will be displayed through the Shanley House Gallery in Granbury this May. A free, open to the public Reception & Exhibit will be held Saturday, May 7th from 2 to 4pm.
